Rare Operculum Shell & Pearl Gold Brooch

The unique example of Operculum jewelry is a handcrafted gold brooch set with two large operculum shells and accented with 4 pearls, set in a gold mounting with a seaweed or wave motif. Operculum shells first become popular in Victorian jewelry, this brooch is an early Arts & Crafts Movement, and is believed to be American in origin.

The brooch is approxiamtely 1.5 inches long and 1 inch wide. While unsigned this brooch is well crafted.
