Georg Jensen Centerpiece Bowl 980A

Item No: 102415 Category

Henning Koppel’s Bowl 980A.
This Georg Jensen Sterling Silver bowl was originally designed in 1948 by Henning Koppel for Georg Jensen. Koppel’s Bowl 980A received the Gold Medal at the IX Triennial 1951 in Milan. This bowl has been featured in several books and museum collections.

It has a remarkable resemblance to a piece of abstract art, a sculpture. Koppel, being a trained sculptor himself, manages to make the bowl look light and floating, despite its heaviness by making space between the foot and the big bowl. The asymmetrical shape of the two forms almost makes it look as if the bowl is turning around itself.

The bowl is raised by hand from a very heavy flat piece of silver after the same principles as the Covered Dish

Bowl 980A impressed company marks: Georg Jensen Sterling Denmark 980A 925s and the date mark F11 for 2004
