1950’s Modernist Silver & Rose Quartz Necklace by Art Smith

Item No: 101800 Categories ,

A sterling silver and rose quartz necklace by American studio Jeweler Art Smith.

A similar necklace can be seen in Marbeth Schon’s ‘Modernist Jewelry 1930 – 1960 The Wearable Art Movement’, page 72.

Dimensions: 4.5 inches in diameter, with a 3.625 inch gap. The Rose Quartz ball is marble-sized. The neckcollar is circa 1960 and is in excellent condition.

Art Smith’s modernist designs were integral to the parts of the body they were made to adorn; his jewelry, though sculpturally advanced, was not made to stand alone, but to be worn. ‘A piece of jewelry, he said, is a ‘whatisit?’ until you relate it to the body…Like line, form, and color, the body is a material to work with.” Marbeth Schon’s ‘Modernist Jewelry 1930 – 1960 The Wearable Art Movement’
